Craig Brown serves as Senior Counsel in the Business Law Group at Cassels. Craig’s practice focuses on representing principally technology and life sciences companies in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, and related corporate and governance matters. Craig guides companies through transformative events and critical governance matters including acquisitions, sales, debt and equity financings, joint ventures and material licensing transactions. Craig has structured and executed industry consolidation roll-ups in the areas of industrial services, physiotherapy clinics and dental practices.

Prior to joining Cassels, Craig was with another leading national law firm where he co-founded one of Canada’s leading emerging technology practices and for over two decades has been very active in the Ontario innovation ecosystem. In addition to providing strategic and thoughtful legal advice, Craig seeks to intermediate opportunities for his clients, including identifying qualified investment targets for private equity and venture capital clients and introducing Canadian companies to strategic domestic and international partners and investment groups capable of providing catalytic growth capital.

Craig has been active in the Canada-India business corridor for most of his career, being a past president of the Toronto chapter of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) and a current member of the board of directors of the Canada-India Business Council (C-IBC). Craig has facilitated Canada-India transactions across several industrial verticals with a particular focus on technology and life sciences.

Craig was a founding director of Invest Toronto, and serves as external counsel to its successor, Toronto Global, the regional foreign direct investment agency for the greater Toronto area. Craig has extensive corporate governance experience having served on both public and private company boards as well as the boards of several charities and not-for-profit organizations.
