Canada-India Business Council in response to Ontario Bill 177
“The Canada-India Business Council, founded in 1982, is a non-partisan, not-for-profit, inclusive, membership-driven organization, dedicated to promoting closer economic ties between Canada and India.
The C-IBC wishes to indicate its disagreement with the current Ontario Bill 177. While we recognize that this is a Private Member’s Bill in the provincial legislature, nevertheless, it has symbolic relevance. From our perspective, this will also impinge negatively on Canada-India economic relations. A number of positive trends are evident: rising trade and investment, the socio-economic benefits of increased Indian student numbers at Canadian post-secondary institutions, and bilateral collaboration in the innovation arena. The Council is of the view that our primary focus is on these areas of mutual benefit between our two countries.”
