Earlier I was the Executive Chairman - SB Energy which was launched in India in 2015 and achieved over 7GW of renewable energy - solar, wind and hybrid - capacity pipeline in India. It is also pursuing Corporate PPAs with MNCs for large scale RE plants with storage battery. Previously I was the Managing Director and CEO, Bharti Airtel, for operations in 20 countries across Asia and Africa till 2015. I joined Bharti Airtel in 2002 as President - Mobile Services business and led creation of the unique business model, an admired brand, high performance culture and the operations to grow from 2m to the third largest telco in the world with 400m customers. I led formation of Indus/Infratel, the largest tower company in the world for achieving major infrastructural synergies. I started my career in HR in 1979 with the DCM Shriram Group and held business leadership positions in the Foods, Chemicals, Refrigeration and Honda JV etc. After 16 years in the manufacturing sector, I led a mobile startup Escotel to achieve market leadership in 3 important markets in India. I was the Chairman, Public Policy Committee and Board Member of GSMA in 2008 and 2012. I was the Chairman, CII Task Force on Ease of Doing Business and now the Chair of CII Future Business Council for attracting new investments in India. Mr. Manish is a career diplomat. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1997. In his over twenty two years of diplomatic career so far he has served in Indian Missions in Moscow, Tashkent, Prague, Colombo and Jakarta. In between his overseas assignments, he served in New Delhi at the Ministry of External Affairs first as Under Secretary in the US & Canada Division and Foreign Service Institute; and then as Deputy Secretary in the United Nations Political Division from August 2004 to July 2007. Prior to being appointed as India's Consul General in Vancouver, he served as Joint Secretary in the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service from November 2017 to April 2018 and then as Joint Secretary managing India’s bilateral relations with ASEAN countries, Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Island Countries from April 2018 to November 2019. As Joint Secretary (Overseas Indian Affairs) from November 2019 to August 2020, he implemented policies for engagement with Indian diaspora. Manish is passionate about travelling, sports and cuisines. He is deeply interested in strategic, trade & commercial and development cooperation issues. As Counsellor (Economic & Commercial) at the High Commission of India in Colombo from July 2010 to November 2013, he represented India at the Colombo Plan Secretariat and South Asia Cooperative Environment Programme (SACEP).
